Press Release – March 13, 2019
The Central Corentyne Chamber of Commerce acknowledges the ruling of the Court of Appeal regarding the No Confidence Motion. While we note concerns surrounding aspects of the decision, we urge that it be respected in the interest of national stability.
At the same time, as the government welcomes this ruling, we call on them to also uphold the constitutional requirement regarding dual citizenship in Parliament. This matter should be addressed at the next sitting and must not be treated as business as usual.
Although the ruling may have brought a level of calm across the nation, it is critical that this issue be resolved with urgency so that Guyana can move forward with clarity and confidence. We therefore call on the Caribbean Court of Justice to expedite hearings and bring this matter to a final resolution.
End.
